The Lovely Bones Review

when a movie trailer hits me on the spot (especially a novel-based film), i promised to myself that i would try reading the book (or in my case, e-books) first before watching the film. the same goes with the Twilight Saga and Harry Potter Series. the last novel-based film i've watched was The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I remembered watching its trailer last March this year when i decided to see Alice in Wonderland. I was intrigued with the story line and its plot. so i decided to read the book.

unfortunately, i was too busy that reading the said e-book that it took me for about 2 months to finish it. and upon watching the film, i can humbly say that the movie didn't gave justice to the story. haha. but seriously, some of the scenes, items, stories, characters, time written on the book either weren't shown or edited in the film. the infedelity of the mother, the meet up of ray and susie on the gym, the pennsylvania charm bracelet found on another crime scene, grown-up buckley, Sam and Hal Brothers (sam is used to be lindsey's man), Mrs. Salmon's Photograph, and many more where hidden in the film. and should i say, the part where susie came back to ruth's body, she never asked ray to kiss her. she asked her even more of that. i guess they tried to make the film PG13 as much as possible. what has been shown is only 25%-30% of what has written in the book.

but infairness to the film, i was worried that the story on the book after susie's death, certain situations happen that lasted for 10 years, where their dog died, or her father was hospitalized due to heart attack, Lindsey's engagement and others. the film was able to shorten the time span (by editing the story itself). the way it shown susie's heaven was magnificent. the spectre of colors, the scenery, the effects were absolutely great that it fed up my hungry eyes. and the susie girl is really beautiful. as much as possible, it would be better for some to read the book before watching the film. I'll give the film 3.5 out of 5 stars. :)
