last friday night was something different than what i've expected. i decided to go out just to enjoy two gimik nights which i requested to have my day off. at 2:30am, after being an eye-catching stud, i decided to drop by in a mcdonald's 24 hour service and ordered the biggest fries. i've been craving for those for weeks now. and at last, they're all here! haa!
on the table in front of me, i saw an old couple facing each other. the old lady (granny) is munching a fries on her hand and the old man in front of her, which seems to be her husband, (gramps) is eating his (i think) a cheeseburger deluxe. i can see that the dexterity of gramp's fingers has declined. it moved so slow to put the burger near his mouth. he bites and chews the food slowly. i guess he's on his 70's now. the usual grampa look, tall, white hairs, thick glasses, protruded belly, and a walking stick beside. grandnny seems to handle herself well. she's very fine and well mannered. she's on her 65+, complete with jewelries, floral blouse, silver hair and a glasses too. i stare continuously at her as she scrutinize the receipt of their ordered meal.
"nabayaran na ba yan?!" (is that settled already?) gramps slowly whispered.
"oo, tapos na (with a smile)" (yes, it is) granny answered back.
gramps slowly reached a tissue on the table and gave it to granny in a way an old man, infested by rheumatism and degenerated joints due to age, do.she grabs it with her hand and slowly wiped her lips as she slowly and graciously take small bites of an apple pie. i can see gramps watch her as she eats. then she reached the last bite of her apple pie to gramp's mouth.
grandma moves quicker and can stand better than gramps. she even hums with the fast-food's background music (which by the way is Alejandro by Lady Gaga). gramps gave a small nod asking if they are ok to go. after a nod given by granny, gramps slowly moved his walking stick to his left, gave all the force he can give and tried to be on his feet. i thought he's going to fall. it took him around 5-8 seconds just to stand from his chair. while granny checks her things, she stood up a seconds quicker than gramps, holding a key to her hand. good to know that they have a car parked outside, and i guess she's the one who'll be driving.
gramps met my eyes as i forgot that i've been staring at them for some minutes now. unconsciously, i gave them a smile and quickly, i broke the eye contact between us. nahiya ako. haha
funny. people tend to break their relationship in a belief that they could find someone better than the other, even willing to undergo heartbreaks and cycle of moving on. and yet they haven't considered looking for somebody who's willing and honest enough to spend their remaining days with the one they love.
love really is a powerful feeling. it can defer the physical image and could make you feel opposite your age. i hope those match made in heaven could find each other soon.
on my way home, i saw 2 different vehicular accident. a tamarraw fx-like vehicle was crushed after bumping into something in front of UP- Ayala Technohub. fragments of broken glass and metals are all over the place. then a shattered motorcycle was seen in an area of Diliman, the driver was carried into an ambulance and brought to the nearest hospital.
